Google has discontinued picasa for linux, quiet disheartening for people like me who use ubuntu and picasa. So the only way left is to run picasa executable using crossover or wine. This post will help you setup picasa using wine.
Install Google Picasa on Ubuntu 11.04/11.10/12.04/12.10
Install wine package using apt.
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install wine winetricks
Download the picasa setup, the latest is 3.9
$ cd ~
$ wget http://dl.google.com/picasa/picasa39-setup.exe
$ WINEARCH=win32 winecfg
Properties windows will popup click on OK
Install Internet Explorer 7, it is required for you to sign in to google account and sync your pictures.
$ WINEARCH=win32 winetricks -q ie7
Now run the installer with wine.
$ cd ~
$ wine picasa39-setup.exe
