Turn on your cloud install openstack HAVANA Cinder

Overview

Cinder is the service which provides storage volumes to be used by the instances just like Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS). For this setup I am using a iscsi target to mount a LUN on my controller and feed it to cinder.

Turn on your cloud install openstack HAVANA Cinder

First install some dependencies

Next install Cinder and Cinder client

Restart iscsi service

Next configure Cinder api conf

Create cinder.conf. Make sure you replace the ip address in the conf with yours

Create the mysql database and user for cinder.

Create DB schema for cinder

Now lets scan and login to our iscsi target. My ISCI target is at 10.0.0.30

Add the LUN to physical volume and create volume group. Make sure to use same volume-group name as provided in cinder.conf.

Restart services

That’s all to our cinder setup. To create a volume execute. This will create a volume of size 10Gb by the name uat-vol1.

To check we have the volume available execute

cinder01 300x176 Turn on your cloud install openstack HAVANA Cinder

Once done you can create new instances on this volume or attach this volume to a running instance.
